“Hathor Farm” was started many years ago by Mary Waterman when she moved from Germany following World War II, eventually settling in New Hampshire where she still resides. About 10 years ago it became my honor to take over Mary’s kennel name and continue with her beloved wirehaired dachshunds. I now live and do the majority of our training on an 18-acre farm on Whidbey Island, in Washington State. Originally I had started “in dogs” as a teenager with my family’s miniature smooth dachshund but had switched my attention to Belgian Tervuren in college. The focus of the American Belgian Tervuren Club had always been on the versatility of their breed, a philosophy I had learned to appreciate. When I first met and later was fortunate enough to bring home some of Mary’s dogs I was, quite simply, “blown away” by their companionable dispositions, natural talent and the skill they could show in performing all manner of activities. It has been my continuing pleasure to explore the many different AKC sports open to dachshunds, and in so doing reveal to the world just how very special and talented our dogs can be.
